Description
The Biogas and Market Facility takes a regenerative approach that aims to capture methane gas generated by organic food waste and turns it into a source of renewable district energy for Chinatown. Due to the sites proximity to Vancouver’s produce row, restaurants and local markets, there will be no shortage of fuel. The goal of this project is to ultimately act as an educational tool to raise awareness about food waste since the biggest portion of waste comes within our own homes. The program of the market and biogas facility is intertwined and dictates the undulating roof. Pulling apart the biogas digesters create a large void for the market inside. The publically accessible green roof is draped over the program to allow the interior to form and shape the exterior topography.
